The Hollywood Foreign Press Association ( HFPA for short , German  Foreign Press Association Hollywood ) is an American organization of film journalists. Members are journalists of various nationalities who work primarily in Hollywood but publish their work in the non-American press .

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association was founded in 1943 by a correspondent for the British newspaper Daily Mail . The organization is best known for the Golden Globe Awards, which have been presented every year since 1944 . According to the New York Times , the HFPA, registered as a non-profit organization , earned 5.7 million US dollars at the 2003 Golden Globe Awards.

The HFPA President is elected annually; Meher Tatna has been the current incumbent since June 2017 .

In March 2015, the HFPA consisted of 85 active members and two honorary members "for life". Among the active members are the correspondents Elmar Biebl , Anke Hofmann , Helen Hoehne , Munawar Hosain , Yoram Kahana , Karen Martin , Scott Orlin , Patrick Roth , Frances Schoenberger and Dierk Sindermann as representatives of the German press ; Barbara Gasser , Elisabeth Sereda and Hans J. Spürkel are represented as Austrian journalists . The criteria for admission to the HFPA, like the electoral criteria for the Golden Globes, are not considered to be transparent. Members are only accepted at the suggestion of two active members. Applications from correspondents from well-known newspapers such as The Times or Le Monde were sometimes rejected, while freelancers from Bangladesh or South Korea were accepted.
