Elmar Biebl

Elmar Biebl (born July 29, 1947 in Wörth an der Isar ) is a German journalist, author, and juror at film competitions.

Life

Biebl completed a traineeship at the Straubinger Tagblatt . After working in the editorial department of the Landshuter Zeitung and at Stern (Jugend forscht), he was the national competition manager for Jugend forscht . He then worked on the editorial team of the Controlled Circulation Springer magazine, which was headed by Wolf Schneider, Dialog (Head of Modernes Leben) and Die Welt (Head of Series and Documentaries) and was editor-in-chief of Criminal, a monthly magazine published by John Jahr Verlag Hamburg. He was a co-founder of the trade magazines Cinema , VideoMarkt and Neue Medien. In 1980 he moved from Hamburg to Los Angeles and has since worked as a freelance correspondent for German-language media.

An active member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), he is a juror for the Golden Globe Awards . He served the HFPA on several occasions as Vice President, Director of the Board and Parliamentarian. He is a committee member and juror of Cinema for Peace and was a juror of the Dubai International Film Festival .
