action
After his wife died from cancer six years earlier, the successful western writer Monte Wildhorn quit writing and started drinking. Only a stay in the country allows the novelist , who has been in a wheelchair since a traffic accident through no fault of his own, to participate in life again. Wildhorn makes the acquaintance of many friendly people, the eccentric Carl, a helpful shopkeeper, but above all the attractive and life-affirming Mrs. Charlotte O'Neil, who lives next to him at the lake with her three daughters.
Ultimately, the old curmudgeon takes responsibility for a dog and the friendly neighbors, whose daughter Finnegan O'Neil he teaches to write, gradually bring back the lost joie de vivre over a long summer. At the end, Monte stops drinking and starts to write again. When his publisher finally reveals to him that a well-known actor would like to buy the film rights to his western hero, he initially refuses, but in the end he thinks of a better one, agrees and uses the money he earned to buy the small property next to the neighboring family O ' Neil, where he would like to spend his retirement from now on.
Reviews
"A feel-good drama with serious nuances that comes across as too adeptly constructed to be carried away."
