Reviews

  • James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that Rob Reiner's string of hits like Harry and Sally and A Matter of Honor was coming to an end. Above all, he criticized a few disturbing (sometimes overly long) side strands of the plot.
  • Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times on July 22, 1994 that watching the film was one of the most unpleasant experiences he had ever had. He stressed several times that he "hated" the film. This is one of the worst films that has ever been made.
  • The lexicon of international films finds the film "sometimes very amusing", but criticizes that it is too ironic and comic-like for young people, but that adults are hardly captivated by the child's perspective.

Awards

  • Elijah Wood was nominated for a Saturn Award for his role in 1995 .
  • Matthew McCurley won a Young Artist Award in 1995 . The film was also nominated for Best Comedy at the awards ceremony and Elijah Wood was nominated for Best Actor.
