This Is Spinal Tap (Alternate title: The guys from Spinal Tap ) is an American movie from the year 1984 , of a pseudo-documentary , the fictional heavy metal - rock band Spinal Tap on a tour accompanied. The comedy was director Rob Reiner's film debut .

action

Spın̈al Tap is a British band that was formed during the 1960s and played first beat music and then in the style of the flower power movement . Twenty years later it is a crisis-ridden heavy metal band, whose drummers all die prematurely. In the course of the tour for their latest album Smell the Glove , there was a real crisis, as the release of the album was initially rejected because of the sexist cover design and incidents and misunderstandings occurred at the concerts. The girlfriend of singer David St. Hubbins is in danger of driving a wedge between the band members.

Reviews

Roger Ebert wrote in his January 21, 2001 review that This Is Spinal Tap was "one of the funniest films ever made".

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was an “intelligent, witty, sometimes malicious discussion of show business and filmmaking” and at the same time a “sophisticated satirical commentary on appearance and reality, the formation of myths and reality in (music) show business ".

background

The band Spın̈al Tap was formed in 1978 for the comedy special The TV Show . The three actors then teamed up with director Rob Reiner. There was no script for a large part of the film, the actors improvised and Reiner later edited the raw material. As a result of this procedure, there is significantly more material than the initially published material, the DVD edition contains an additional hour of film material as a bonus. When it was first published, the film was not very successful at first, as the viewers apparently did not always realize that it was a satire. This Is Spinal Tap became a cult film when it appeared on DVD.

For example, the argument that a guitar amplifier with a volume control scale ranging up to 11 instead of 10 is “one louder” than usual is well known. This reasoning is responsible for the fact that This Is Spinal Tap is the only film whose maximum score is displayed on the IMDb portal as 11 instead of the usual 10.

The role of Bobbi Flekman played by Fran Drescher was continued in 1997 in an episode of the sitcom The Nanny (season 5, episode 3: The Bobbi Flekman Story ).
