A tour (derived from the French tour, which around 1700 also referred to a musical form; English , also short form in French in geographical and sporting contexts: tour) is a series of performances by one or more artists at different locations, such as the guest performances of one Theater ensembles outside of their traditional place of activity, a tour of a touring theater or a concert tour with several appearances by a musician or a musical group . Lecturers of all kinds, comedians, speakers, politicians (during the election campaign) can also go on tour.

The term has also become common for sporting events that take place in different locations - with usually the same participants - for example the Four Hills Tournament .

Organizing a tour is a complex process and requires intensive preparation. There is usually a tour management between the lecturer and the local operator at the venue, which negotiates the organization of a tour by contract. The items to be negotiated include, for example: start / end of the event, security, overnight stays, transport, advance ticket sales, local staffing requirements, technical requirements, catering, secure parking spaces, fees, local / national advertising, etc ...
