Paul Allen Wood "Shiv" Shaffer (born November 28, 1949 in Fort William , Ontario ) is a Canadian keyboardist , music producer and composer .


He played with many international greats including Eric Clapton , Gloria Estefan and Justin Timberlake . In 1985 he was the band leader at the Live Aid Festival. In 1979 he wrote the disco title It's Raining Men with Paul Jabara , which became popular in 1982 with the Weather Girls and rose to number 43 in the charts in Germany.

Between 1982 and 2015 he also led the band of the David Letterman hosted Late Night Shows . He composed the music for the film Blues Brothers 2000 and also plays a small supporting role in it. He also had other small appearances in films and series such as This Is Spinal Tap , Ed - The Bowling Lawyer and How I Met Your Mother (season 8, episode 175) as well as the Christmas film A Very Murray Christmas . From September to October 2019 Shaffer took part as a skeleton in the second season of the US version of The Masked Singer and reached twelfth of a total of 16 places.
