Edward James "Ed" Begley Jr. (Born September 16, 1949 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American actor .

Life

Edward James Begley Jr. was born as the illegitimate son of Oscar-winning actor Ed Begley (1901-1970) in Los Angeles. At that time he was still married to his wife Amanda Huff. However, his son grew up in Buffalo , New York , and attended the Stella Niagara Education Park Cadet School in Lewiston. After the family moved back to Los Angeles in 1962, he attended “Notre Dame High School” in Sherman Oaks and studied at “Los Angeles Valley College” in North Hollywood.

For his role as “Dr. Victor Ehrlich ”in the television series Chief Physician Dr. Westphall (St. Elsewhere) , Begley was nominated five times for an Emmy Award and in 1986 for a Golden Globe Award . He worked in numerous well-known television series such as Columbo or Star Trek: Raumschiff Voyager .

Personal

On June 18, 2011, Begley described on the television program Celebrity Close Calls that he was almost murdered in 1972 when he was stabbed several times during a robbery by a street gang. The attackers were young people who were later picked up by the police.

Begley was married to production assistant Ingrid Taylor from October 31, 1976 to October 1989, with whom he has two children, Amanda (* 1977) and Nicholas Taylor (* 1979). On August 23, 2000, he married actress Rachelle Carson , with whom they have a daughter.
