So far, the film has won over 88 percent of all Rotten Tomatoes critics and received an average rating of 7.1 out of a possible 10 points. The film website CherryPicks, which was initiated by film critics and campaigns for gender equality in the field of film criticism, gives a value of 80 percent, which means that the film is worth its ticket.
Jon Frosch from The Hollywood Reporter noted the crisp dialogues in his review. The central premise of the film - two people who are made for each other perfectly but do not want to admit it - is one of the narrative pillars of romantic comedy, but what Plus One lacks in originality in this regard, the film does with warmth and viewing pleasure at least partially compensated. Scriptwriters and directors Jeff Chan and Andrew Rhymer have a keen sense of the tempo and a good ear for jokes. Most important, however, is that they leave room for their two main characters when they tease and torture each other, while they let us more and more participate in their desire for one another.
