reception

Blunt Talk received mostly mixed reviews. At Metacritic , the series received a Metascore of 54/100 based on 24 reviews; at Rotten Tomatoes , 53 percent of the 34 reviews were positive.

Mike Hale of the New York Times says it is “fair to say that Blunt Talk is offering us Patrick Stewart ” “like we have never seen him before. Walking around in the men's room at the airport, pants around his ankles, losing patience when trying to cover the toilet seat without success, or when a transgender prostitute seriously asks whether he can suckle her breasts ”.

Brian Moylan of the Guardian asks if the "show is good". He continues: “ Blunt Talk is a weird bird. […] [For example, when] Blunt leads a group of police officers in a Benny Hill-like chase for his jaguar . It makes you giggle, but it's stupid-funny, not the deep-existential funny from smarter programs. Blunt talk is best when it comes to closely watched comedy from an old world man trying to live in the modern world. […] These moments seem rare ”.

Barbara Oswald from the Süddeutsche Zeitung thinks the series is “insane - and unfortunately tiring” and asks herself “why [you] put such a screwed-up figure in a thirty-minute sitcom format”. Furthermore, she finds “Patrick Stewart's insane one-man show” seems “after a short time no longer entertaining, but above all tiring” and ensures that the secondary characters would appear “like pure extras”. Guest star Brent Spiner “definitely has to be right when he says to Stewart: 'I'm worried about you'” in a scene.
