Brent Spiner
Brent Jay Spiner (born February 2, 1949 in Houston , Texas ) is an American actor and singer. His best-known role is that of android data in the science fiction series Spaceship Enterprise - The Next Century .
Life
After the death of his father Jack Spiner in 1949, Brent Spiner first lived alone with his mother, who continued the father's furniture business, and his older brother. Then his mother met Sol Mintz a few years later. Spiner was adopted by his mother's second husband, Sylvia, and used his surname from 1955 to 1975. In retrospect, he described the first time with his mother's new husband as extremely unhappy for himself and his brother, which is why he took the surname of his biological father again.
Spiner attended Bellaire High School in Bellaire , where he was influenced by acting teacher Cecil Pickett. He also trained Cindy Pickett , Randy Quaid , Dennis Quaid , Trey Wilson , Robert Wuhl and Thomas Schlamme , among others . Spiner began his career as a stage actor in Houston. As a young man he moved to New York and took acting lessons at the famous Lee Strasberg Acting School. To make a living, he drove a taxi.
In the late 1970s he worked in various musicals in New York City (including Sunday in the Park with George ). During this time he also had a small role in the Woody Allen film Stardust Memories . In 1984 he moved to Los Angeles , where he appeared in several television films and series, including an episode of The Twilight Zone , and in Harry's Miraculous Criminal Court , as Hillbilly / Redneck Bob Wheeler. From 1987 to 1994 he played the android Data in the successful Star Trek series The Next Century . Behind his sometimes naive effort to be human hides an individual with great spiritual and ethical qualities. In the course of the series, he also played Data's "bad brother" Lore and its aged creator Dr. Noonia Soong. In addition, there is the role of the data prototype B-4 in the movie Star Trek: Nemesis (2002). In the follow-up series Star Trek: Enterprise produced in 2004 , he embodied the character of Dr. Arik Soong, an ancestor of Noonia Soong.
After his success with Starship Enterprise - The Next Century , Spiner received several film roles, including in Independence Day and Aviator . In 1991 he recorded the CD Ol 'Yellow Eyes Is Back , on which he sings songs by various artists from the 1930s and 1940s. He also had guest appearances in several series, including Criminal Intent - Verbrechen im Visier , Friends , Deadly Games , Crazy About You , Star Trek: Enterprise , Frasier , Joey and Outer Limits . In 2000 he starred in the film Hey man, where is my car? a slightly crazy ostrich breeder. In 2005 he played in the science fiction series Nemesis - The attack , which was canceled after one season. He also made a guest appearance on The Big Bang Theory in 2011 , where he played himself with Wil Wheaton . He was also seen in several plays, such as Man Of La Mancha , where he played Miguel de Cervantes / Don Quixote . Starting in 2011, Spiner starred in Fresh Hell , a web series on YouTube in which he plays himself after a scandal that has cost him his job and family. In 2015, he was seen alongside his former Star Trek colleague Patrick Stewart in several episodes of the sitcom Blunt Talk .
Spiner is mostly spoken by Michael Pan in German dubbing . The German dubbing for Warehouse 13 was done by Lutz Schnell , as Michael Pan was already assigned to another actor.
In 2020, Brent Spiner played the character of Lt. again in the first episode of the new series Star Trek: Picard . Cmd. Data. Data, who sacrificed his life in the movie Star Trek: Nemesis to save the USS Enterprise, appears in the new series as the dream figure of Admiral Picard (Patrick Stewart). In later episodes Spiner plays the scientist Dr. Altan Inigo Soong, the son of Noonien Soong.
Private life
Spiner lives in Los Angeles with his manager and partner Loree McBride and their son . He largely shields his private life from the public. In a 2011 interview, he spoke of McBride as his "wife". He describes himself as a vegetarian .
