Night Court ( English: Night Court ) is an American sitcom that was produced 1984-1992.
action
Surprise at the Manhattan Criminal Court , nobody expected such a judge. Harold "Harry" T. Stone is very young, goofy, and playful. And as he reports, he was at the bottom of the list of new judges to be appointed. But since the Super Bowl was on, he was the only one who could be reached by phone. He usually sits in the Manhattan Criminal Court at night and deals primarily with minor cases such as minor assault or prostitution. It is seldom a matter of life and death, and when it does, it is for other reasons.
Richter Stone's meetings are generally rather unconventional, which has in part been met with strong criticism from colleagues who view this type of behavior as harmful. As a big fan of all kinds of magic it can happen that Judge Stone conjures a dove out of his hat. However, that does not change his competence, and his employees also go through fire for him.
There's also Assistant District Attorney Dan Fielding ; an arrogant snob who only has money and, above all, women on his mind, whom he pursues at every suitable and unsuitable opportunity, usually with success. Nevertheless, he is not only competent, but deep down - even if he would never admit it himself - a good person.
The statutory defense was initially carried out by Liz Williams , but was soon replaced by Billie Young . But she only stayed a year before Christine Sullivan finally came. She is an uptight person who has many problems with the male sex. Christine often raises her moral index finger and is thus the contrapart of the "depraved" Dan Fielding. She stands up for her clients with all her skills.
The good soul of the court company, which tries to bring order into the chaos and also to keep track of things, is the weird, sometimes grumpy court secretary Mac Robinson . He is a Vietnam veteran and married to a Vietnamese woman. He met Quon Lee as a young soldier in Vietnam. She later followed him to the United States because she fell in love. Of course it's Harry who trusts them.
The bailiffs are the backbone of the court. Always on board is the gigantic Bull Shannon , who at first glance seems stupid or even naive. But there is much more to him than you might imagine at first, and he has a particularly big heart. There were two quick changes in the position of bailiff, as the first two women - Selma Hacker , a notorious smoker and Florence Kleiner , a scruffy creature - died very quickly because of their advanced age. With Roz Russell , a bailiff was hired who appears repellent and scruffy on the outside, but at least up to a certain point has only built it up as a facade.
Frequent guests are the somewhat overzealous caretaker Art , Harry's late found father Buddy , who spent most of his life in mental hospitals , and the singer Mel Tormé , of whom Harry is a huge fan. In addition, Dan Fielding employs the homeless Phil as a kind of helper and takes him out wherever possible. Phil, however, sees Dan as a benefactor.

synchronization
The German version was created at Arena Synchron in Berlin. The German dialogue books were written by Ivar Combrinck , who also directed the dubbing and lent his voice to John Larroquette. The title melody and background music have been replaced in the German version by compositions by Uli Roever based on the original.
Remarks
First, series creator Reinhold Weege developed the concept that the focus should be on a judge who is interested in magic and who loves Mel Tormé. Ironically, Harry Anderson was cast as a man who was a professional magician and loves Mel Tormé.
In the first year the team had to cope with a lot of fluctuation. The role of public defender was cast a total of four times. Markie Post, who then held the role to the end, was the first choice, but did not get out of her contract with the series Ein Colt just in case. The actresses of the first two bailiffs, Selma Diamond and Florence Halop also died in real life. There was also a change in the position of court secretary, as Karen Austin was aiming for a film career. So it happened that only Harry Anderson, John Larroquette and Richard Moll were always there from the original cast.
Prosecutor Dan Fielding actually has a different name, as we learn several times. His birth name is not Dan, but Reinhold. Here the authors allowed themselves a little joke and alluded to the creator of the series, Reinhold Weege.
In season 3, episode 3 of the American TV series 30 Rock , an alternative ending with the original actors was produced in which Harry and Christine were to be married.
Awards
The series was nominated for two Golden Globes (both times John Larroquette) and 31 Emmies , of which 7 were also won, 4 by John Larroquette alone.
