Jack Elliott (composer)

Irwin Elliott Zucker (born August 6, 1927 in Hartford , Connecticut , † August 18, 2001 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American jazz pianist , composer and arranger .

biography

Irwin Elliott Zucker was born in Hartford , Connecticut . After graduating from the Hartt School of Music , Elliott worked as a jazz pianist and studied with Arnold Franchetti , Isadore Freed , Bohuslav Martinů and Lukas Foss . However, it was Judy Garland who hired him from New York City to Los Angeles to win him as an arranger for her Judy Garland Show . After other engagements like The Andy Williams Show and Live From Studio 8H: 100 Years of America's Popular Music , Elliott began composing films.

At the Academy Awards in 1965 , Elliott, Robert Armbruster , Léo Arnaud , Jack Hayes , Calvin Jackson and Leo Shuken received a nomination for best film music for their musical collaboration in the musical film Goldgräber-Molly .

On August 18, 2001, Elliott died of complications from a brain tumor . He is buried in Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery .
