action

The married Marjorie Turner is frustrated. Her younger sister Jeanine is considered not determined, her marriage to Harry, a doctor, which has lasted for eight years, causes tension between Marjorie and the rest of the Harrys family.

Marjorie spends passionate hours with an unknown man who, as it later turns out, is her brother-in-law Charles Jr. who wants to visit his family in a hotel room. Charles jr. dies during the act of love. Marjorie loses her wallet at the hotel, which is found by the traveling salesman Nicholas Meany. He thinks he is responsible for death. Jeanine falls in love with Nicholas' brother, Captain Wilbur Meany, who wants to become police chief.

The Turner family learns of the affair. Nicholas turns himself in to the police, but is later released. Wilbur Meany is promoted to police chief. Marjorie is writing a book about the events.

Marjorie and Harry live separately at times, Harry calls Marjorie from his car and asks to meet. When she agrees, she sees Harry right in front of her house. He read the book and also realized that he and his family were not innocent of the fling and the further entanglements because he paid more attention to his career and listened too much to his parents and sister than to take care of his wife. Marjorie and Harry make up.
