Bill Pullman
William James "Bill" Pullman (born December 17, 1953 in Hornell , New York ) is an American actor .
Life
Bill Pullman was born the son of doctor James Pullman and his wife Joanna, a nurse. While most of his six siblings were also pursuing a medical career, Bill took an early interest in theater and film.
After high school , he studied at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in Theater Studies ( Theater / Directing ). He produced his own plays and lectured at Montana State University . He made his stage debut in New York in the Curse of the Starving Class and appeared in several Broadway plays. In 2008, Bill Pullman was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Massachusetts.
Even after moving to Los Angeles Pullman worked initially only at theaters before 1987 in Mel Brooks science fiction - parody Spaceballs participated through which he made his breakthrough as a film actor. This was followed by appearances in the successful films The Journeys of Mr. Leary , Sleepless in Seattle , While You Slept and Casper . In 1996 he played the US President in Roland Emmerich's Independence Day . In 2000 he made his debut as a director with the western Land of the Outlaws . The following year he directed an episode of the Night Visions series . His German voice actor is mostly Detlef Bierstedt .
Private
Pullman has been married to Tamara Hurwitz since 1987, with whom he has a daughter and two sons, including actor Lewis Pullman . He and his family live part of the year on a cattle ranch near Whitehall , Montana . He and his brother own the farm. Pullman runs a bird resort in Paradise Valley , Arizona with boxer Mike Tyson .
