American Ultra is an American action comedy released in 2015 . It was released in American cinemas on August 21, 2015 and was released in Germany on October 15, 2015. On February 25, 2016, the release on DVD and Blu-ray took place in Germany.

Mike Howell, a stoner, lives with his girlfriend Phoebe in Limen, a small town where he works in a supermarket. The relationship is disrupted by Mike's numerous obsessive-compulsive disorder. Mike keeps trying to get out of town. But when he tries to fly to Hawaii with his girlfriend, he is slowed down by a panic attack. Mike has long planned to propose to Phoebe and gets illegal fireworks from his dealer, Rose. When he is doing his shift planning his application, a woman from the CIA comes into the shop. It turns out that Mike is the result of an experiment by the CIA , which now wants to eliminate him in order to cover up traces. Victoria Lasseter, then head of the experimental program, reactivates him to save him, whereupon Mike kills anyone who attacks him. Overwhelmed by the sudden knowledge and skills, the couple flees to Rose. There they learn that the press claims that Mike and Lasseter brought dangerous monkey flu to Limen and are wanted for it. Rose locks them both in his basement. A little later, he and his buddies are killed by CIA agents, who then try to kill Mike. To do this, they use a deadly gas. Mike learns that Phoebe was originally put in touch with him by the CIA to keep an eye on him, which leaves him doubting his feelings and identity. Phoebe didn't come back because she fell in love with Mike. Another agent, meanwhile, moves into quarters in Limen to kill Howell. Lasseter and Howell sometimes fight together against the attackers. More and more of Howell's special abilities are emerging; so he kills some attackers with a frying pan. For the showdown, Howell comes to the supermarket, where one of Yate's special unit of psychopaths is waiting for him. Ultimately, he manages to save Phoebe and take out the attackers. In the parking lot he then proposes to Phoebe before they are both immobilized with electric batons.
A few months later, you can see the well-dressed Mike approaching Phoebe, who is waiting for him at the reception of a fancy hotel. It becomes clear that Howell is working for the CIA again.

It was first announced on March 1, 2014 that Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart had been cast to star in the film. The other leading actors followed in spring 2014. The role of Victoria Lasseter was originally supposed to be cast with Sharon Stone , who was also cast for it; however, she was later replaced by Connie Britton .
The shooting of the film, which is Nourizadeh's second project after Project X (2012), began on April 14, 2014 in New Orleans and ended in mid-June of the same year.
With a budget of USD 28 million, American Ultra was produced by the production companies Circle of Confusion, Palmstar Media and The Bridge Finance Company and distributed by Lionsgate (USA) and Concorde Filmverleih (Germany).

American Ultra received mixed reviews. He has an average rating of 45% at Rotten Tomatoes , based on 137 reviews. At Metacritic , the average rating is 50%, based on 31 reviews.
Peter Travers rated the film two out of four stars in Rolling Stone magazine : “The film's twisted charm fades very early and is soon replaced by a bloodbath. Eisenberg and Stewart remain appealing until the end; the film itself is not. "
"American Ultra may not be able to offer Genre Prime Pinanas Express the joint, but despite a certain inconsistency, it is convincing as a crazy and ultra-brutal cinema trip."
“Why don't we rate American Ultra as mediocre? Because the film is entertaining and doesn't always have to be taken in the same direction. There was at least one good moment that it could have ended before to have a really cool ending.
