Andrew Marcus
Andrew Marcus (* 1960 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American film editor .
Life
Originally from Boston, Andrew Marcus attended Bryanston School , a boarding school in Dorset , England . Immediately after graduating from the University of Virginia with a degree in English and Philosophy , he spent a year and a half writing speeches for Congressman Eugene A. Chappie in Washington, DC . Disaffected by politics, he then moved to New York City , where he first came into contact with film editing during renovation work in a loft where documentaries were being edited . Within a year he made documentaries about the Beatles , the Motown record company and the history of early rock music.
In 1986 he found a job with the film company Merchant Ivory Productions, where he was initially employed as an assistant editor for James Ivorys Maurice (1987). Ivory then left him alongside Humphrey Dixon to edit his film drama Mr. & Mrs. Bridge , in which Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward played the leading roles. In Simon Callow's directorial debut The Ballade from the Sad Café (1991), Marcus was the first to be solely responsible for editing a feature film. In 1992, the Oscar- nominated short film Swan Song began his multiple collaborations with actor and director Kenneth Branagh . First, however, Marcus worked again for James Ivory. For his literary adaptation, Wiedersehen in Howards End , he received a nomination for the BAFTA Award in the category Best Editing in 1993 . This was followed by Branagh's third feature film Peter's Friends (1992) and his Shakespeare adaptation Much Ado About Nothing (1993). James Ivory came back to Marcus as editor in 1993, when he staged another literary film adaptation of Was vom Tage Left , in which Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson played the leading roles as in Howards End . Marcus was also responsible for editing Ivory's film biographies Jefferson in Paris (1995) and Mein Mann Picasso (1996).
Since the 2000s, Andrew Marcus has worked primarily as a film editor in independent films such as American Psycho (2000) and A Home at World's End (2004). He also worked on numerous music videos.
