Flicka - freedom. Friendship. Adventure is a feature film by Michael Mayer from 2006. It is a remake of the film Flicka (Original title: My Friend Flicka ) from 1943, which is based on the novel by Mary O'Hara from 1941.

16-year-old Katy is returning from a private school to her family's Goose Creek Ranch in Wyoming . The horse madwoman sets her head there, taming a wild horse she calls Flicka ( Swedish : girl). Her father would rather send her to college and sell the horse to a rodeo organizer . To get the horse back, she wants to take part in the rodeo and ride Flicka there. But when she wins the rodeo and rides home, a misfortune happens that ends almost fatally for Flicka.
Reviews
The lexicon of international films described Flicka as "[s] olide, albeit conventional entertainment for cuddling and well-being, where at best the hymn of praise meets American virtues."
The Rotten Tomatoes website analyzed 75 reviews, of which only 53% were positive. The site sums up that children could identify with the rebellious main character, but adults would find a film with "flat characters, exaggerated dialogue and a story that wanders out to the country and never returns."
Sequels
In 2010 the sequel Flicka 2 - Friends for Life was released , the film was released as a direct-to-DVD production . In June 2012 the third part followed under the title Flicka 3 - Best Friends . Both titles were directed by Michael Damian .
