Career
Tim McGraw is the son of well-known baseball player Tug McGraw . He grew up in Start, Louisiana and was equally interested in music and sports. After graduating from high school, he began studying law at Northeast Louisiana University. But his life was increasingly determined by country music. From 1987 he appeared regularly in clubs. In 1989 he dropped out and moved to Nashville .
Two years later he signed a recording deal with Curb Records . His first single, Welcome to the Club , reached a middle spot on the country charts in 1993. His debut album Tim McGraw was released in 1993. The breakthrough came a year later with the second album Not a Moment to Soon . The single Indian Outlaw sparked controversy and was boycotted by some radio stations, but was able to place itself in the front area of the hit parade. The second single from this album, Don't Take the Girl , became his first number 1 hit and also placed in the top 20 of the pop hit parade. The album sold over three million copies and was triple platinum.
The next CD, All I Want , made it back to number one on the country album charts in 1995 and produced the No. 1 single I Like It, I Love It . On the promotion tour for this album, the singer Faith Hill appeared in the opening act , who had already made a name for herself in the scene and had a successful album as well as a number 1 hit. A year later, Hill and McGraw married.
In 1997 the album Everywhere was released , from which five number 1 singles were released, including Just to See You Smile and in a duet with Faith Hill It's Your Love McGraw was also able to build on his previous successes with his next productions. In 2001 he received a Grammy for his duet with Hill Let's Make Love and had a No. 1 hit with colleague Jo Dee Messina Bring on the Rain .
The production of the 2002 album Tim McGraw and the Dance Hall Doctors was documented in the book of the same name. In the studio, he did not use session musicians, as is usual in Nashville, but resorted to his touring band, the Dance Hall Doctors .
Since 2003, Tim McGraw has been Honorary Chairman of the newly established Tug McGraw Foundation, named after his father, which is dedicated to research into brain tumors.
