biography

Beginnings

Messina was born in 1970 in Framingham , Massachusetts , to Vincent and Mary Messina . She has three siblings and grew up in neighboring Holliston. Messina sang in theatrical performances as a child; as a teenager she formed a band with her siblings and performed in clubs in the area.

At the age of 19, Messina moved to Nashville , where she competed in talent competitions. This led to regular appearances on the radio show Live at Libby’s , where music producer Byron Gallimore became aware of Messina. He already worked with country singer Tim McGraw , with whom Messina became friends.

Career and personal life

Eventually Messina got a recording deal with McGraw's label Curb, and in 1996 her debut album, Jo Dee Messina , was released, which has already produced two top 10 hits: Heads Carolina, Tails California , which came in at number two, and You're Not in Kansas Anymore .

Her breakthrough came in 1998 with Messina's second album I'm Alright . The decoupled singles Bye Bye , I'm Alright and Stand Beside Her stayed at number one in the country charts for several weeks, which no interpreter had achieved before. The extraction Lesson in Leavin also made it to second place. In addition to the award in the USA, the album also achieved a platinum award in Canada.

In 1999 Messina was recognized for her achievements by the CMA and the ACM . In 2000 their third album Burn followed , which went further in the direction of pop music. It became their first number 1 album, selling more than a million copies, and the single That's the Way from it became Messina's fourth number 1 single. The songs Burn and Downtime were further top ten successes, while the fourth release Bring On the Rain , a duet with Tim McGraw, again took first place. The album also achieved a gold award in Canada.

After Messina had successfully withdrawn from alcohol in a clinic in Utah in 2004, her next studio album, Delicious Surprise , was released in 2005 , again reaching number one on the country charts and number seven on the pop charts. The release My Give a Damn's Busted was also another No. 1 hit for Messina.

Messina has been married since the end of 2007, and their son was born in Nashville in January 2009.
