Academy of Country Music
The Academy of Country Music (ACM) was founded in 1964 by Eddie Miller, Tommy Wiggins and Mickey and Chris Christensen under the name Country & Western Music Academy in Los Angeles . In 1965 a board of directors was appointed with the 1st chairman Dick Shofield.
task
The aim of the ACM is to promote country music , with the American west coast in the foreground. To this end, seminars are held, young artists are promoted, local musical events are promoted and contacts to industry are established. In addition, benefit events are carried out or supported.
ACM Awards
The most important event is the annual presentation of the Academy of Country Music Awards , or ACM Awards , which has taken place every year since 1965 . The award show has been broadcast live on television nationwide since 1972 - initially from Los Angeles, and since 2003 from Las Vegas . Prizes are awarded in the following categories:
- Artist of the Year (Entertainer of the Year)
- Song of the Year
- Single of the Year
- Album of the Year
- Best Singer (Top Male Vocalist)
- Best Female Vocalist
- Best Duo (Top Vocal Duo)
- Best Group (Top Vocal Group)
- Best Young Artist (Top New Artist)
- Video of the Year
- Musical Event of the Year (Vocal Event of the Year)

membership
Anyone who makes a living from country music can become a Professional Member , there are currently more than 3,000 such members. Supporters and sponsors can participate as associate members , in 2006 the number was around 35,000.
The members vote in a vote, which has also been possible online since 2004, to choose the annual winners of the ACM Awards . Only professional members are entitled to vote in the most important categories .
