People's Choice Award

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The People's Choice Awards are American awards that are awarded based on the popularity of the winners.

They have been awarded annually in January since 1975 and are based on surveys by the Gallup Public Opinion Research Institute for the most popular actors, films, artists, TV series and music bands. There is no pre-selection.

Every year there is a tie in different categories - often due to a tight majority - and the prize goes to the two nominees with the most votes. In 2003, for example, both The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring and Spider-Man were voted the most popular films.

The award ceremony will be broadcast on CBS and produced by Procter & Gamble Productions.
