history

Curb Records was founded in 1964 by Mike Curb under the name Sidewalk Records. At this time, Curb wrote and produced for numerous artists and also released his own singles and albums. He was under contract with Mercury Records .

The first single on the label was released in 1965 with the title Blue Guitar  /  Apache '65 by his former high school band Davie Allan & the Arrows. In the same year, Curb produced the first single by Linda Ronstadt and her then band The Stone Poneys , which was to appear on Sidewalk Records. Instead, The Mugwumps Bald Headed Woman  /  Jug Band Music followed in 1966 as the label's second recording. The Stone Poneys later released the singles So Fine  /  Everybody Has Their Own Ideas , probably in 1968 . Sidewalk Records also released several soundtracks , including The Electric Flag's recorded soundtrack from The Trip (1967), Psych-Out (1968), The Wild Racers (1968) and Hell's Belles (1969). Also in 1967 was the compilation Golden Hits of the Paris Sisters by the women's band The Paris Sisters, which was particularly successful in the 1950s and early 1960s . From 1969 to 1973 Sidewalk was merged with MGM Records , where Mike Curb was the managing director of MGM and Verve Records and worked with numerous successful musicians.

In 1975 Curb Records started its very successful program as an independent label with albums by The Four Seasons and the Bellamy Brothers , supplemented in the following years mainly by Shaun Cassidy and Debby Boone . In 1978 the first single and the following year the album Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound by the long-standing successful Hank Williams Jr. appeared on the label and in 1979 Susie Allanson switched to Curb for her album Heart to Heart . Numerous other artists followed and the program expanded, especially in the 1980s, to the present day.

In 2012, Curb Records started Sidewalk as a new label and imprint based on the original name of the label and released albums by Heidi Newfield , Clay Walker and Hank Williams III.
