The Bellamy Brothers are an American country duo , consisting of the brothers Howard (born February 2, 1946 in Darby, Florida ) and David Bellamy (born September 16, 1950 in Darby, Florida).

First steps

David and Howard Bellamy grew up in Florida on their parents' farm. They picked up musical impulses from numerous styles early on. They learned different instruments and gained experience in several bands. In 1968 they founded the pop group Jericho , which lasted three years. The brothers then initially concentrated on writing songs. In 1973 Jim Stafford recorded Spiders and Snakes, written by David Bellamy . The single sold more than three million copies and gave them a solid financial cushion.

Career

After this first success, the Bellamy Brothers moved to Los Angeles in 1973 , where they initially worked as session musicians. In 1975 they got a record deal with Curb Records . The single Nothin 'Heavy , sung by David Bellamy, reached number 77 on the Billboard Singles Charts .

About his friend, drummer of the backing Neil Diamonds they learned of a song that a Roady had written the band: Let Your Love Flow . The duo recorded a single with it in 1976 and achieved a blockbuster hit that reached top positions in the pop charts worldwide. In Germany, Jürgen Drew's version of Ein Bett im Kornfeld also became a hit and reached number 1 in the German singles charts . A subsequently produced album of the same name only reached number 69 on the US LP charts and was the only album by the duo that was able to place itself in the LP charts. Let Your Love Flow also peaked at number 21 on the country charts.

The two successor singles Hell Cat and Satin Sheets were only able to occupy places in the lower third of the chart in the USA, but the brothers had greater success with their titles in Europe. With Satin Sheet (12th place) and Crossfire (17th place) they achieved two top 20 hits in Germany in 1976 and 1977 respectively.

After a long stay in Europe, a slight change in style towards classical country music was initiated in the late 1970s. In 1979 the single If I Said You Have A Beautiful Body Would You Hold It Against Me reached number 1 on the country charts. In pop music, the song was the last hit of the Bellamy Brothers in the US charts at number 39.

They continued to be successful in country music, where further top ten placements followed in the charts. In 1980, Sugar Daddy and Dancin 'Cowboys again achieved two number 1 hits. By 1987 they reached number 1 on the country charts with the following titles: Do You Love As Good As You Look (1981), For All The Wrong Reasons (1982), Redneck Girl (1982), When I'm Away from You ( 1983), I Need More of You (1985), Too Much Is Not Enough (1986), and Kids of the Baby Boom (1987).

Her streak of success lasted until the late 1980s. In 1991 the brothers founded their own label. Sales dropped significantly, but the Bellamy Brothers stayed in business. Between 1991 and 2000 they worked together with Ralph Siegel , who helped them again to small chart successes in Germany.

In 2012 the Bellamy Brothers recorded the album Simply the Best together with DJ Ötzi . On this is among other things the song Like a Star , the English version of Ein Stern (... who bears your name) .

Her album Bellamy Brothers & Friends , released in 2013, was a collaboration with Swiss artists such as Peter Reber (ex Peter, Sue & Marc ) and Gölä .
