Gölä
Gölä (born June 7, 1968 in Thun ; actually Marco Pfeuti ) is a Swiss rock musician .
Life
First successes in dialect
Gölä grew up in Oppligen near Thun. After a stay in England he completed an apprenticeship as a painter. During his apprenticeship he founded the band Joshua , in which he sang in English.
In 1998 he was looking for a band to record a couple of Bernese German "Lumpeliedli". Together with Zlatko «Slädu» Perica (guitar), Thomas «TJ» Gyger (keyboard), Urs Frei (drums) and René Maurer (bass), the group Gölä & Band was formed . The five musicians received support from the two sisters Sandra (since 2003 successful as a solo artist under the name Sandee ) and Barbara Moser as backing vocals . The band was able to sign a record deal for three dialect albums with Sound Service .
Her first album, Uf u dervo (= "Up and Away "), became the most successful Swiss dialect album to date , with over 250,000 copies sold and five platinum awards . It stayed in the Swiss charts for more than two years . After that, Tom Metzger from Sound Service took over the management of the band.
On March 6, 1999, Gölä & Band were recognized as the best rock band of the year at the Prix Walo and Gölä as the crowd's favorite 1998. For the first time an artist could win both awards.
In the same year the second CD Wildi Ross («Wild Horses») was released. It stayed at number 1 on the charts for nine weeks. It stayed in the top 10 for 18 weeks, three of them together with the previous album, and it was in the charts for over a year. It has been awarded triple platinum status. It also contained a number three hit in the single charts with I hätt no viu stupid ta . The release of the album was followed by an open-air tour through Switzerland, including a concert in the Zillertal as the opening act for the Schürzenjäger in front of over 30,000 people and a concert at the Gurten Festival .
The biggest and last tour of the band followed in the winter of 1999/2000. On April 1, 2000, the first farewell concert took place in the Forum Friborg . In the summer a double-level album was released with the title Volksmusig , which reached number 2 in the charts. Gölä then traveled to Australia with his son Mike. The growing popularity, but also critical media reports and different views on life led to a break in the band's unity. While Gölä was still in New Zealand, he broke up the band.
After his return, the remaining three musicians (Gölä, TJ and Slädu) decided to produce the third studio CD that was contractually agreed with the record company. Gölä III was only released under the name Gölä and was the third number one album and the next album with triple platinum status. After renewed success and only three more concerts, including two sold-out concerts in the Zurich Hallenstadion with DJ Bobo and Marc Storace, as well as another live album, the band finally broke up in 2002.
English-language music and a return to dialect
Gölä decided that from then on he would no longer want to make dialect music and returned to his roots in English-language rock music. In 2004 he again recorded an album sung in English with TJ Gyger and Slädu Perica under the name Burn . The CD at least reached number 5, but still could not build on old successes. It remained the only CD under the name Burn and in this constellation.
Just one year later he invited four other Swiss musicians and spontaneously recorded his second English-language album with them, entitled Gimme a Band . It was published on August 22nd and did not get past 31st place on the charts. The third English album Rock & Roll , which was presented at the beginning of February 2007 on the occasion of its appearance at the Art on Ice in Zurich's Hallenstadion, also performed only slightly better despite successful appearances in Zurich and Lausanne.
In the same year Gölä appeared as a guest on The Biggest Swiss Hits and was confronted for the first time with his dialect past on a large scale. The huge fan enthusiasm prompted him to record his old dialect successes again parallel to his fourth English-language album and to add it as a second CD. The double album Tattoo - Best of Bärndütsch / So Damn Sexy was released in May 2008 and brought him back to number one . So he decided to add a new dialect album that same year. He reached the top of the chart for the second time in a year with Z'Länke fäge . It was also the third album to go triple platinum.
New projects
The following year, Gölä took part as a candidate in the third season of The Biggest Swiss Hits . With the song I ha di gärn he reached number 3 and then had his only number one single hit. The single also achieved gold status.
In 2010 Gölä started a radio play project in dialect again with Thomas Gyger. Inspired by his own three-year-old son, he wrote stories about the world traveler Gollo and his parrot and set them to music as a radio play. The first CD with the title Am Nordpol was so successful that it made it into the Swiss charts to number 34. In the years that followed, they published more stories, of which In Asia and Route 66 also hit the charts. In 2012, Papagallo & Gollo also released an album with children's songs in various styles under the title Party, Dance & Rock 'n' Rock .
Also in 2010, Gölä met the Bellamy Brothers for the first time in Florida . They recorded an album in which they not only sang together, but also Gölä recorded the hits of the Bellamy Brothers and the Bellamys English versions of Göläs hits. The Greatest Hits Sessions once again reached number one on the charts. It stayed at the top for six weeks and was awarded double platinum. The joint version of Bellamys' greatest hit Let Your Love Flow also hit the charts. This was followed by a joint tour of Switzerland and a live album entitled BB&G Platinum . In 2014 the three musicians decided to revive the connection and met again, this time to write and record new songs. The album Mermaid Cowgirl reached number 6 in Switzerland in autumn of that year.
Dialect music from 2010
After various other projects and the live album 100% Mundart Stadion Thun , Gölä started his next dialect album . Two albums were created with the title Ängu u Daemon I and II ("Angels and Demons"), which were released in quick succession in the summer of 2012 and both reached number one .
After his positive experience with the Bellamy Brothers in the USA, he went to Nashville at the beginning of 2014 to record many of his Bern German hits and two new songs with US country musicians. With the album The Most Beautiful Dialect Ballads - Nashville Recordings , he was number one in the album charts for the ninth time in May. In October 2016, his latest album, Starke , was released. After just two weeks, he was presented with the “Number 1 Award” on the Swiss hit parade.
Appearance on Happy Day and new album «Urchig»
After a surprise appearance on the television program "Happy Day" on Swiss television SRF in August 2016, in which Gölä surprised yodel singer Kathrin Burch and sang one of his most famous dialect songs (Indian) with her and this duet had received a lot of media attention, Gölä decided to to record a complete album with well-known and new dialect songs together with various yodel choirs in Switzerland.
This album, which bears the name “Urchig” (dialect: down-to-earth ), was officially released in stores on September 29, 2017.
Büetzer Buebe
In 2019 it became known that Gölä had formed a temporary duo with Trauffer , which was christened Büetzer Buebe . Her first song Büetzer Buebe was viewed over 600,000 times as a YouTube video and received average ratings. The single was able to stay in the Swiss charts and two weeks, where it reached number 15.
The official festival song of the Swiss Wrestling and Alpine Festival 2019 in Zug also came from this duo ; Maa versus Maa (top placement: 24, over 570,000 views on YouTube).
The album Büetzer Buebe , which was released on August 9, 2019, reached first place in the Swiss album charts despite average ratings of the song pre-releases and stayed at the top for three weeks (as of April 12, 2020). However, this is due to the low CD sales.
various
Gölä has been married since December 28, 2012. The couple have two daughters together. The singer has two biological sons from previous relationships.
Gölä makes no secret of his political orientation, he sometimes expresses himself politically in public and describes himself as right-wing conservative.
