Bligg at Radio Pilatus (2018)

Bligg (born September 30, 1976 in Zurich ; real name Marco Bliggensdorfer ) is a Swiss musician from the canton of Zurich . He produces Swiss-German rap (spoken word).

Life

Bligg grew up in the Schwamendingen district of Zurich and in Wolfhausen in the Zurich Oberland . At the age of 22, Bligg took part in so-called freestyle sessions , which he presented in Swiss German . In 1995, the EP Zürislang Freistiil, limited to 300 copies, was the first publication on which Bligg can be heard as a rapper. Three years later he met the producer and rapper Lexx . Bligg and Lexx can be heard together for the first time on the sampler Chocolate, Cheese & Sounds . In 1999, the two Swiss released their first single Schnitzeljagd under the group name Bligg'n'Lexx. The cuts and scratches of the single were contributed by DJ Cutmando, who subsequently accompanied Bligg and Lexx on the Bligg'n'Lexx tour. In the following years until today, DJ Cutmando has also worked on Bligg's albums and appears as a DJ on the rapper's tours, which are completed as part of every Bligg's release.

In 2000 the single Du & Ich, created in collaboration with Pete Penicka, and the album Nahdisnah by Bligg'n'Lexx were released. The album was received positively by the critics and increased the popularity of the dialect group. Bligg then began to work on his own pieces and was signed by the Universal Music label . In 2001 his first solo album Normal was released , which reached number 20 in the Swiss charts. To this end, Bligg worked with hip-hop musicians Spooman , Lexx and Stress as well as the American rap group Tha Alkaholiks . Another song was created together with the soul musician Emel , with whom Bliggensdorfer was together for a long time. The tracks Alles scho mal ghört and Relaxtra were released as singles and both were able to position themselves in the top 20 of the Swiss single charts. Alles scho mal ghört remained in the charts for a total of 16 weeks and reached rank 7 as the highest ranking. In 2002 Relaxtra was released again in the form of an EP.

After the release of Normal , Bligg ended the collaboration with Universal Music and finally signed a contract with the Nation Music label . In 2004 the second album Odyssey was released , for which he had worked with various Swiss producers. Odyssey was represented in the Swiss charts for nine weeks and was able to occupy position 19 as the highest ranking. Guest contributions by Emel, Stress, Stephanie and Berlin rapper Kool Savas can be found on Bligg's second album . Above all, the cooperation with the latter and the common single King Size attracted attention in Germany. After this release, Bligg went on tour again with DJ Cutmando and other musicians.

In 2005 Bligg released a mix album under the title Okey Dokey on the Musikvertrieb label. The album is the first DualDisc to be launched in Switzerland. Again Emel and Kool Savas are represented on the record. The piece Gang nöd is Bligg's contribution to a campaign on Swiss television on the subject of suicide prevention . In 2006 the album Mit Liib & Seel was released , on which Bligg also sings for the first time and uses the English language for his lyrics. A tour followed, during which the Swiss was accompanied by a seven-member band. One year after the release of the mix album, the rapper was able to enter the top 10 of the Swiss album charts for the first time with his fifth album Yves Spink , which he had recorded in his own studio with DJ Cutmando. The play Susanne can be found on Yves Spink , who is named after a Zurich party organizer . This represents a "declaration of love" to Susanne Wille , the presenter of the news program 10vor10 .

The song Volksmusigg was re-recorded for the television program The Greatest Swiss Hits in October 2007 with the folk music group Streichmusik Alder from Urnäsch . This version was a success and was represented as a single in the Swiss single charts for more than 20 weeks. Bligg then went on tour with the string music Alder. As a result of this successful collaboration, he decided to integrate stylistic elements of traditional folk music into his titles in the future, for example by using the stringed dulcimer . Bligg also recorded a cover version of the Prince title When Doves Cry with Lesley in 2007 . At the end of October 2008 he released the album 0816 through Universal Music . Eight weeks after publication, Bligg was able to reach number 1 in the Swiss album charts for the first time with 0816 and was represented in the charts for 100 weeks. The album has reached quadruple platinum status to date. In 2009, 0816 took first place in the Swiss annual album charts. The first single Rosalie about a lonely woman who falls in love with a rose seller reached position 5 on the singles charts. The second single "Musigg i dä Schwiiz" also reached the top 10 of the single charts. On the 0816 tour in early 2009, Bligg was accompanied by numerous guest musicians such as the young dulcimer Nicolas Senn , which allowed the characteristic style elements of the album to be transferred to the live performances.

The album Bart but cordially released at the end of 2010 was awarded four times platinum and was represented in the Swiss album charts for 83 weeks, of which 43 weeks in the top 20. The singles Legändä & Heldä , Chef and Manhattan that were released from it were all in the top 20 placed on the Swiss charts, with Legendä & Heldä entering directly at number 1 in the single charts. In 2011 Bligg re-recorded the album with the Youngblood Brass Band and released it under the title Brass, but heartily .

On October 25, 2013 the album Service Publigg was released which was his third number one album in a row and achieved double platinum status. The first single, MundART , was released on August 16, 2013 and reached number 3 in the single charts.

His tenth studio album Instinct was released on December 4th, 2015 and reached gold status within a few weeks. The first single Lah sie redä was released on November 13th and rose to number 4 in the singles charts.

In the casting show The Greatest Swiss Talents on SRF 1, he was a member of the jury for the fourth season in 2016.

His first child was born on May 5, 2015. On April 6th, 2018 his album "KombiNation" was released, which reached gold and platinum status within a short time and took fourth place in the 2018 hit parade.

Awards

In 2009 Bligg received the Swiss Music Award in the Best Album Urban National category for his album 0816 . The musician was also nominated in the Best Song National category at the award ceremony held in Zurich .

In 2011 he won with Legändä & Heldä at the Swiss Music Award in the category " Best Song National" and "Best Album Urban National" with a beard . In 2014 Bligg won two Swiss Music Awards in the category “Best Album Urban National” with Album Service Publigg and with the song MundART the “Best Hit National”. In 2019 Bligg won two more Swiss Music Awards in the "Best Male Act" and "Best Album" categories.
