Odyssey (2004) Okey Dokey With Liib & Seel (2006)

Okey Dokey - The exclusive mix album - Vol. 1 is a mix album by the Swiss rapper Bligg . It was released in 2005 on the Musikvertrieb label , or Muve for short , and reached number 23 on the Swiss album charts. As the musician puts it in the intro, Okey Dokey was developed “without a concept, without a plan, without a strategy” and was supposed to bridge the waiting time between the albums Odyssey and Mit Liib & Seel .

Emergence

Marco Bliggensdorfer, as the rapper's real name is called, produced Okey Dokey together with the DJs Cutmando and Sam B, the latter being his brother. The recordings as well as the post-processing of the mix album took place in the studio of Benjamin “Beni” Stoll from Bern. The so-called mastering then took place in the Echochamber studio under Dan Suter. Okey Dokey was put together and mixed by DJ Cutmando.

In Okey Dokey is the first audio carrier in Switzerland as a DualDisc was published. With this special form of compact disc , the disc can be played on both sides, with the CD on one side and a bonus DVD on the other.

Texts

Bligg in 2008

The mix album opens with an intro . Various musicians and friends of the rapper speak on Bligg's answering machine , such as Gleiszwei -MC Tibner97ner, Bligg's former duo partner Lexx, Emel Aykanat, Kool Savas or Beni Stoll. Between the messages that these leave behind, he raps about the creation of the mixtape and that he is "damn proud, and not just of his own success", since other Swiss hip-hop musicians such as Stress or the Kuchikäschtli section have meanwhile also celebrated successes.

Several titles in the mix album can be assigned to the genre of battle rape . In these songs criticizing and attacking a fictional person and the positive portrayal of the rapper are in the foreground. These pieces include, for example, Kein Grund , Bligg Blizo , Simpel and Champion Musigg . No reason arose as early as 2004 when the German rapper Kool Savas came to Zurich for three days to record the song King Size with Bligg , which was released as a single from the album Odyssey .

In the song Bonx it pon me , which was created in collaboration with the reggae group The Ganglords , Bligg humorously tells of the relationship with a smoking ex-girlfriend. She makes her drug consumption visible to the entire neighborhood, plants hemp plants “plantations on the balcony”, wears a denim jacket with a Bob Marley flag and has already mistaken the rapper for her dog. Their little interest in anything but marijuana eventually led him to give up the relationship.

In the song Gang Nöd , which was released as a single from the album, the musician deals with the topics of suicide and depression among young people. He speaks directly to the people concerned and tries to convince them that giving your own life is not the best or even the only solution to serious problems. The piece was the contribution Bliggs to a campaign of Swiss TV about suicide - prevention .

Style of the album

Like a mix album, Okey Dokey features relatively short tracks, most of which don't last much longer than two minutes. In between, so-called skits can be heard, humorous skits that mostly relate to the last or next song. There are transitions between the individual tracks that allow you to listen to the mix album in one piece without interruption. In several cases the beginning or an intro of the song is still at the end of the last track. At the beginning of almost every song, a scratched toddler's voice can be heard, which mentions the title of the album and the rapper's nickname, Bligg Blizo .

illustration

The cover of the mix album is white. On the right edge of the picture you can see the rapper's logo in the form of a knitted doll with embroidered threads as eyes. This is partly outside of the picture. The name of the rapper and the album title can be read in the middle. Below that is the supplement The Exclusive Mixalbum Vol. 1 in small print . The word Okey Dokey is halved in color; Okey can be seen in red and Dokey in black. On the back cover, in the booklet and on the disc itself, it is indicated that the music CD is the Okey side and the DVD is the Dokey side .

Bonus DVD

The bonus DVD on the Dokey site contains a photo gallery on the one hand. In addition, the music videos for Gang nöd and for the two songs King Size and Single can be seen, the latter two being released as singles from the album Odyssey . There is also an eight-minute making-of video for the single clip .

Chart history

Okey Dokey entered the Swiss album charts at number 23 on June 19, 2005, making it the rapper's worst-placed release to date. In the following seven weeks the mix album fell to positions 33; 36; 39; 52; 78; 81 and 89 back. In the ninth week, on August 21, Okey Dokey was the last classification in 100th place.

production

The instrumentals on the mix album were contributed by various producers, with Sam B, DJ Cutmando and Bligg themselves bearing most of the responsibility. In addition to the album's intro, Sam B produced the songs Wow / Okey Dokey , Bligg Blizo , Chumm mit , Battle Rap Song , Wievil Intro , Wievil , Sunne & Mond , Wundervoll and Wie du . DJ Cutmando is responsible for the instrumentals for Hey DJ , No reason , Flipped uus , Est-ce que t'es ma Girl and Simpel . Bligg himself created the background music for Gang Nöd and Champion Musigg and co-produced Wie du . Reto C. "Fu" Gaffuri, who still works with the rapper and works as a bassist for him, was also involved in the same title .

D-Digital also produced the song Merci while Trouble King and JV were responsible for the beat for On est de taille . The musician and singer Pete Penicka produced Geil on which he also had a guest appearance. Studio manager Beni Stoll played the electric bass instrument on the tracks Intro and Gang nöd . Philippe Forest was responsible for the guitar on the song Simpel . Ganglords bassist Philipp Schnyder composed and produced Bonx it pon me . DJ Cutmando and Sam B are responsible for the scratches .
