Emel (singer)

Emel (born June 8, 1974 in Brugg ), actually Emel Aykanat , is a Swiss soul singer .

Life

At the age of 17, Emel, who has Turkish roots, toured Europe as a backing singer with Six Was Nine and Roachford .

Her first success was in 1993 as a female voice in the piece Somebody Dance With Me by DJ BoBo , which was followed by appearances in various discos. She also sang singles Keep On Dancing and Everybody by DJ Bobo. Her first own album “Can We Talk” was released in 1996 and reached chart position 26 in Switzerland. In Germany, the album was presented by the radio station Jam FM . In 1997 she sang the chorus in Sabrina Setlur's song “You don't love me”.

In 2001 she recorded the Swiss-German duet Alles scho mal ghört with Bligg , which earned her her first place in the top 10 of the Swiss charts. With stress , she recorded the French-language title Juste Nous Trois for his album Billy Bear in 2003 . The following year she recorded the song Predicto with Bligg. She also sang in the backstage choir of the song Kuba on the 2005 tour of Fettes Brot .

The album Komm in mein Leben is their first German-language album and was released in 2007. With the single She , released in November 2011, the singer applied for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku . There she wanted to compete for Switzerland . However, she was eliminated in the Swiss preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 . The song is also the first track from the new album released in March 2012.

Emel lives in Zurich , she has a daughter.
