The ganglords

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ganglords is a reggae group from Switzerland . It was formed in 1988 and then recorded two albums in Kingston . The band works with a number of nationally and internationally known musicians, including Lady Saw , Goofy , Ghost, Terry Ganzie and the Jamaican singer and DJ Skarra Mucci .

The ganglords' music can be described as a mixture of roots reggae and raggamuffin , mostly depending on the singers they work with. In 1991 the band released their first record called Girls dem Nice , a 7-inch record that was made in Gussy Clark's studio in Kingston and recorded with Steely & Clevie . The album Kingston Confidential followed a year later , whereupon they recorded songs with Gregory Isaacs , Patra , Frankie Paul , Max Romeo , Captain Barkey , Spanner Banner , Courtney Melody , Mikey Melody , Superman & Spiderman and others.

In 1995 the Ganglords returned to Kingston to live there for a year and record their second album Burnin 'up . The first song in particular, a remix version of Thanks & Praises by Frankie Paul , found itself a short time later as a trailer for a reggae festival and in the top 20 of the Jamaican charts. The second track Burnin up , recorded together with Lady Saw and Thriller U , is still played by radio stations in Switzerland, especially Radio 24 . Also Buccaneer , Goofy and Mad Anju can be heard on the album.

The last release of the Ganglords is a 12-inch record with a version of Groovy Situation and some interpretations, including by rapper Bligg . The Ganglords can also be heard on the album Ancient Spirit by Patrice Bart-Williams with some riddims .

Singer Skarra Mucci took part in the track What About Us on the album Mind-vs-Heart by the Italian reggae singer Raphael in 2013 , which was also included on the mixtape Here Comes The Soundblaster in 2015 .
