Frankie Paul (actually Paul Blake ; born October 19, 1965 in Kingston , Jamaica ; † May 18, 2017 there ) was a Jamaican dancehall musician.

Life

Paul Blake was blind at birth; surgery at the age of eight partially restored his sight in one eye. He started singing at the age of three. His family and friends encouraged him because he had a good voice. In 1976, Frankie Paul was at the Salvation Army School for the blind when one morning the teachers announced that there was a special guest visiting today. This guest was Stevie Wonder , one of Frankie Paul's idols. According to Frankie Paul, Stevie Wonder's visit was “one of the most inspiring moments of my life”.

The next big moment in the artist's life came a year after leaving school. He was singing on the street, making a living, when a man named Stucko invited him to meet him the next day. He took him to High Times Music and in 1980 Frankie Paul's first studio recordings African Princess , Babylon Man and Give The Youth A Chance were made. At the time, Frankie Paul was just 15 years old. In 1983 he appeared on two albums of the Channel One Showdown series, including with Sugar Minott and Little John . Among them was the title Worries in the Dance , produced by Junjo Lawes , with which Frankie Paul oriented himself towards dancehall and with which he landed his first major hit. Lawes also produced Pass the Tu-Sheng-Peng in 1984 , which finally made Frankie Paul a star in Jamaica. As a result, Frankie Paul brought out numerous hit singles and some outstanding albums, such as the Tidal Wave (1985) and Alesha (1987) produced by George Phang and the album Warning (1987), which was brought out with producer Philip “Fatis” Burrell . Since these first musical highlights in the mid-1980s, Frankie Paul has worked continuously on new albums.

He was one of the most loved and popular dancehall reggae musicians. Frankie Paul's sound is catchy, the flattering vocals of his unmistakable voice have a high recognition value . He also mastered drums, drums, piano and various string instruments. He had worked for numerous producers and studios in Jamaica throughout his career and was known to record a few albums a year. Much of his newer albums included covers of reggae classics and American R&B material. In total, he released more than 48 albums. His notable works include the popular songs Sara and Worries in the Dance .

Frankie Paul had twelve children, seven of whom were adopted. He confessed to using drugs in the 1980s, but said he had been clean since 1988. Frankie Paul lived alternately in London , New York City and Serrekunda - Dippa Kunda .

After he became seriously ill with kidneys and needed dialysis, he asked his fans for donations for his high medical bills in 2017. However, he died shortly afterwards on May 18, 2017.
