Studio One
The Studio One is one of the most successful Jamaican reggae label . It was founded in Kingston in 1963 by Clement 'Coxsone' Dodd .
Dodd ran the recording studio since 1963 in the Brentford Road in Kingston. It has since grown into an important Jamaican studio for ska and reggae. In 1965 the studio was equipped with a two-track recorder and later with an eight-track recorder, which was a sensation in Jamaica at the time, as such a technically equipped studio was unusual for Jamaican standards. The Jamaica Record Manufacturing Company Ltd. and the Studio One and Coxsone labels were also part of the studio.
Every Sunday there was an audition at Studio One, and many talented singers were discovered. Almost every reggae star has recorded something in Studio One at some point, including The Skatalites , Horace Andy , Slim Smith , Lone Ranger , Bob Marley , Peter Tosh , Bunny Wailer , The Heptones , Don Drummond , Burning Spear and Dennis Brown .
