Freddie McGregor (born June 27, 1956 in Clarendon Parish , Jamaica ) is a reggae singer, musician and producer. He belongs to the Rastafarian religion .
life and career
McGregor's career began at the age of seven. In 1963 he founded the Clarendonians with Ernest Wilson and Peter Austin and recorded records for Studio One .
In the 1980s he also became popular in Europe and had some hits like Big Ship , Push Comes To Shove , Just Don't Want To Be Lonely and I Was Born A Winner . He also played cover versions of many early reggae standards. He has worked with producers such as Junjo Lawes , Linval Thompson, Gussie Clark over the course of his career , and with Niney the Observer in the 1970s and 1980s . In his long career he played many concerts inside and outside Jamaica.
On his Big Ship Recording Studio he published, among others, the Luciano and Mikey Spice produced by him .
He was nominated for a Reggae Grammy 2002 with the album Anything for You . For 2017 he was awarded the Musgrave Medal in Silver.
