biography
Ken Boothe's career began with the Caribbean music producer Clement "Coxsone" Dodd , with whose help he recorded a cover version of Sandie Shaw's song Puppet on a String in 1967 . In the same year he and Alton Ellis successfully toured the UK with the band The Soul Vendors .
After breaking up with Coxsone, he worked with producers Leslie Kong and Keith Hudson . He formed the band Conscious Minds with musician BB Seaton and became known as Mr. Rocksteady in the 1970s due to his success . His first big success was the single Everything I Own , with which he reached number 1 in the British charts in 1974 . This success was achieved in collaboration with producer Lloyd Chalmers. The song, written by David Gates , was interpreted by Ken Boothe in a solemn reggae rhythm, which was well received not only in the Caribbean but also in the United Kingdom. The original of the soft rock band Bread reached chart position 32 in Great Britain and number 5 in the USA. In the same year, Ken Boothe also had another hit in Great Britain with Crying Over You at number 11.
More recently, Boothe has worked with Bunny Lee, Phil Pratt, King Jammy , Pete Weston, Jack Ruby, Hugh "Red Man" James, Castro Brown and Tappa Zukie. He also teamed up with reggae pop musician Shaggy in 1995 , with whom he re-recorded his old piece of music The Train Is Coming , which appeared on the soundtrack of the film Money Train . In 2001 the record label Trojan Records released the double CD Crying Over You , which contains the best recordings by Ken Boothe.
