Sandie Shaw
Sandie Shaw (* 26. February 1947 in Dagenham , Essex as Sandra Ann Goodrich ) is a British pop - singer . One of her trademarks was that she often appeared barefoot.
life and career
Shaw got her first record deal in 1964. As Long as You're Happy Baby was the name of her first record, which was not yet a success. However, this was already in October 1964 when she had a million seller with a composition by Burt Bacharach and Hal David Always Something There to Remind Me . Chris Andrews wrote the next hits for her, and in 1967 Sandie Shaw was one of the most successful singers in Great Britain .
On April 8, 1967, she won the 12th Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna with Puppet on a String . Their barefoot appearance in Vienna was a minor scandal as the Austrian organizers, in contrast to the usual multi-purpose halls , chose the Hofburg , formerly the seat of the Austrian imperial family. Puppet on a String became a hit across Europe after the victory and was number 1 in Germany for eight weeks, a record that no British solo singer could beat after Sandie Shaw.
From 1965 Shaw also sang in German, mostly versions of her English hits. The songs like Du know nothing of your luck (1965 place 25), We'll see you again (1966 place 39), Hoopoe in May ( Puppet on a String , 1967 place 36) and You are wonderful (1968 place 28) were no great successes, whereas their Eurovision title Puppet on a String reached number one in Germany and stayed in the top 10 for 23 weeks.
In 1984 Sandie Shaw covered the single Hand in Glove with Morrissey and delighted fans of The Smiths ( Radio One ’s Saturday Live on April 14, 1984). In the British charts she came to number 27. After studying at the University of Oxford and the London Universities , Sandie Shaw is now a psychoanalyst . To this day, Sandie Shaw has been releasing records at irregular intervals, all of which are trendy, but have nothing to do with Sandie of the 1960s.
In 1987 Die Toten Hosen released a rock cover of the German version of I don't need that kind of loving on the album Never Mind The Hosen - Here's Die Roten Rosen ( And something you now call love ).
On March 26, 2007 Sandie Shaw released Puppet Got Brand New String, a remake of her hit Puppet on a String on the American Podsafe Music Network . The new piece is thus freely available online and can be played by podcasters worldwide without paying any fees.
