Podsafe

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term podsafe was coined by podcasting and describes works, mostly pieces of music, that are licensed so that they can be used for podcasts free of charge in the USA . Often these works are generally freely available, but it is also possible that a title is only released for free use for podcasts, but a fee has to be paid for other distribution channels (e.g. radio or television). In Germany and Switzerland, the works can also be used by GEMA or SUISA and corresponding fees are due.

Such licensing has several advantages for rights holders. Podcasts are mostly produced privately and without commercial intent. As a result, the authors don't get the feeling that they are being exploited, as might be the case with TV productions. Although a large, sometimes international audience is addressed through podcasts, they are usually looking for fresh ideas and alternatives away from the mainstream . For the artist, podcasting is an effective method of making himself and his work known to his target group. If the music is played in a music podcast, this is usually done with an announcement in which information such as the address of the band's homepage, an album that may have been released or dates for the band's live performances are announced.
