The New Seekers are a British pop group .
Band history
After the breakup of the band The Seekers, Keith Potger formed the first formation in 1969 with Eve Graham (born April 13, 1943 ), Sally Graham, Laurie Heath, Chris Barrington and Marty Kristian (born May 27, 1947 ) from Leipzig New Seekers. Already in 1970 Sally Graham, Heath and Barrington dropped out due to artistic differences and were replaced by Lyn Paul (* February 16, 1949 ), Peter Doyle (* July 28, 1949 - October 13, 2001 ) and Paul Layton (* August 4, 1947 ) replaced. Eve Graham and Lyn Paul previously sang in a mixed boy-girl band from Manchester called The Nocturnes.
In 1971, the Coca-Cola beverage company created an advertising jingle entitled I'd Like to Buy the World a Coke . The New Seekers rewrote the text. The song climbed to number 1 in the British charts for four weeks on January 8, 1972 under the name I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing . It became one of the most successful promotional songs of the 1970s and was often known only as the "Coke Song".
Before that, their version of Never Ending Song of Love had already achieved number two in the British charts. In 1972 they performed at the Eurovision Song Contest in Edinburgh and took second place with their song Beg, Steal or Borrow . In the charts, the song also rose to number 2. Other top 10 successes in Great Britain were You Won't Find Another Fool Like Me (number 1, 1974) as well as Circles (number 4, 1972) and I Got a Little Sentimental Over You (5th place, 1974). Her greatest successes in Germany were Neverending Song of Love (4th place, 1971) and Beg, Steal or Borrow (5th place, 1972), of which they also published a German version, Oh, I want to beg, I want to steal .
1974 The New Seekers broke up at short notice and the individual members devoted themselves to their solo careers. In 1976 the group reformed with Marty Kristian, Paul Layton and Eve Graham, ex- Wishful Thinking singer Danny Finn and newcomer Kathy-Ann Rae. Until 1978 they celebrated some chart successes in Great Britain. Eve Graham and Danny Finn dropped out in 1978 and got married. After several changes between 1978 and 2002, only Paul Layton from the original line-up is there. The New Seekers still perform at oldie festivals today. In 2009 they celebrated their 40th anniversary with a major tour.
On April 4, 1987, they were part of the group Ferry Aid , which recorded the Beatles hit Let It Be in memory of the 193 victims of the ferry accident from Zeebrugge and thus topped the UK Top 40 for three weeks.
Eve Graham released the solo album Woman of the World in 1980 and the single Highland Cathedral and the album The Mountains Welcome Me Home in 2005 . In 2006 the album Til The Seasons Comes Round Again followed .
Lyn Paul released her solo album Give me Love in 1975, with another former Coca-Cola promotional song, It Oughta Sell a Million . She has enjoyed great success in England since the 1990s as a musical interpreter in the pieces Taboo by Boy George and in Blood Brothers. In 2007 her second solo album, Late Night, was released .
After Peter Doyle's death in 2001, the album Rarities was released, with solo recordings from the 1970s to 1990s.
Cathy Logan (Kathy Ann Rae) died in January 2011 after suffering from cancer for many years, Danny (Kevin) Finn on February 22, 2016 after a short illness.
