Frances Ruffelle , actually Frances Jane Ruffell , (born August 29, 1965 in London , England ) is a British musical actress . Her mother is Sylvia Young, the founder of the Sylvia Young Theater School ; her daughter is the singer Eliza Doolittle .

Life

Frances Ruffelle has appeared in British musical productions since the 1980s. She played Louisa in The Sleeping Prince , Dinah in Starlight Express and Roxie Hart in Chicago . For her best-known role, the Éponine in Les Misérables , she received the Tony Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical in 1987 and played this role for years on Broadway in New York City . For this reason, she can be seen in the 2012 film adaptation of the same name Les Misérables in a small supporting role as one of the prostitutes. Ruffelle's musical performances were also released as a single or long-playing record.

In 1988 Ruffelle recorded the duet I Will (Take You Forever) with pop singer Christopher Cross , which reached number 41 on Billboard 's US adult contemporary charts .

In early 1994 Ruffelle, like Michael Ball and Sonia in previous years , was selected internally by the BBC to represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin . In the preliminary round, she was allowed to present eight titles, from which the winning song We Will Be Free was determined by televoting . With the pop song, Ruffelle took tenth place at the final of the Eurovision Song Contest and reached number 25 in the British singles charts. The accompanying debut album Fragile was released throughout Europe, but also in Japan, in the same year. In Germany it was only published in 1996. Singles appeared from it even until 1998 without any major success. Some of the included songs were produced by Guy Chambers , who enjoyed great success with Robbie Williams at the same time .

In the following two decades, other solo albums such as Frances Ruffelle , Showgirl , Imperfectly You and most recently I Say Yeh-Yeh with French recordings were released at large intervals . In addition, continues to this day in the UK and the US with their stage programs. Most recently she presented Ruby's Poison .
