biography
Founded in 1970, still as a quartet, the band achieved fame when they came seventh for Great Britain at the Eurovision Song Contest 1979 in Jerusalem with the song Mary Ann . After the second single, So Long, Suzi Baby and a guest appearance on TV in the GDR in the show around , the band initially broke up.
The re-established band project Black Lace had greater success in the 1980s, but now as a duo with Alan Barton and Colin Routh. Several songs made it into the British Top 10. First, Superman (Gioca Jouer) climbed to number 9 in the British charts in autumn 1983 . The song Agadoo , which originally comes from the Saragossa Band, became the group's biggest hit in the summer of 1984, rose to number 2 and stayed in the UK charts for over 30 weeks. With Do the Conga , which reached number 10 at the end of the year, Black Lace made it into the top 10 for a third and last time. By 1989, five more singles were in the middle of the home charts.
The better-known Black Lace titles are played in discos, particularly in England, as well as in Spanish and Tunisian holiday areas, and have also found their way into the Spanish children's entertainment of the mini disco . Some titles are now available in cover versions, for example by DJ Ötzi or Hot Banditoz .
