Alan Barton

Alan Leslie Barton (born September 16, 1953 in Barnsley , † March 23, 1995 in Cologne ) was a British singer.

Career

In 1973 he formed the group Black Lace with Colin Routh, Steve Scoley and Terry Dalton. The band reduced to a singing duo after Scoley and Dalton left the group in 1980. In 1979 the band Black Lace represented Great Britain at the Eurovision Song Contest in Jerusalem and reached 7th place with the song Mary Ann . After Chris Norman left in 1986, Barton became the new frontman at Smokie in 1988 and played - with Chris Norman - his first Smokie concert in Lübeck on May 7, 1988 on the Volksfestplatz. He was the lead singer on the new edition of the hit Living next door to Alice (Who the fuck is Alice) and released thirteen albums with the band. In 1991 he released the solo album "Precious" and two solo singles. On March 19, 1995, the group had an accident with their bus near Gummersbach . Barton died of a brain bruise that he suffered in this serious accident.
