Ottawan is a French disco band that had particular success in 1980 and 1981. The group was founded in 1979 by Jean Patrick from the Caribbean ( Guadeloupe ), under the leadership of the French producer team Daniel Vangarde and Jean Kluger. The group initially played very catchy pop music with a slight Caribbean touch.
Career
Jean Patrick had lived in Paris since the 1960s and was already working in the music business when he met Annette, who was also from the Caribbean and who had also settled in Paris in 1976. With her he initially appeared under the name "Black Underground", then the name was changed to "Ottawan".
The duo became popular with the title DISCO in the spring of 1980. It's an abbreviation ("She is D, delirious / She is I, incredible / She is S, superficial / She is C, complicated / She is O, oh-oh-oh") and is aimed at an imaginary woman. The English-language version climbed into the top 5 of the charts in Germany , Austria , Switzerland and Great Britain .
Shortly afterwards, the title You're OK also made its way into the French, German and British charts. The following year Ottawan had another big hit in Europe with the English version of Hands Up (Give Me Your Heart) . Like DISCO before , the song made it into the top 5 of the German, Austrian, Swiss and British charts.
After that, interest in the Ottawan sound decreased, so that the singles Crazy Music and Help! (Get Me Some Help) only became small hits. After a new attempt as a successor duo under the name "Pam 'n Pat", the two protagonists separated in 1982.
In later years, three different groups toured the world, performing under the band name Ottawan: One with the line-up Esther de Bijl and Robert Walker, one line-up with LA Williams and Ana Bonfim (or Nicole Meister) on the part of the naming rights holder Wilhelm van den Munckhof , as well as the cast of the original singer Patrick Jean-Baptiste, supplemented by a singer.
The rights of the inventors and producers of Ottawan have been with Zagora Productions in France since 1981, whose owners are the producers Daniel Vangarde and Jean Kluger.
