biography

The Saragossa Band in concert

The music of the Saragossa Band mixes pop with elements from calypso and samba and hit the nerve of the times in its first years. The Saragossa Band was the only German band to complete a successful South Seas tour. To this day she still has numerous appearances and plays mainly in countries like Romania, Hungary and Austria, also at major festivals. Every now and then the group can be seen on television.

The group became known from 1977 when they released the song Big Bamboo , which is sung in the Caribbean Papiamentu dialect. Rasta Man and Zabadak followed, two songs with relatively little text that made it into the top ten of the German charts. The following titles Ginger Red , Agadou , Aiko Aiko did not reach the top 10 positions, but Agadou is the title with the greatest long-term effect and to this day the most played song of the group. The title is especially popular in beach bars and nightclubs . Several cover versions of this title have been made in recent years (including Hot Banditoz , DD Company , La Boom , Black Lace and Proty Disco Kids ). However, the cover versions were all unsuccessful and could not overtake the version of the Saragossa Band, which is itself the cover version of a Club Med anthem from 1970. Founding member and songwriter Alfred Rudek died on July 20, 2018 at the age of 63.
