Before 1955

Before their marriage in 1955, Carr and Johnson were already successful solo: the former reached the British single charts as a singer at the keynotes in 1956 with two titles - with Memories are made of this at number eight and with You can't be true to two at number eleven. She also sang on the radio and was a comedian .

Teddy had his own band as a teenager, was a drummer by profession, and was involved with Columbia Records on recordings. He worked as a DJ at Radio Luxemburg and appeared on television programs such as Crackerjack , a comedy series for children. In 1950 and 1951 Teddy Johnson had four top ten hits in the British singles charts, with Beloved Be Faithful reaching # 1 and remaining in the top ten for 16 weeks, followed by I'll Always Love You (# 7 ), Our Very Own (# 8) and Rosaline (# 4).

The duo

After their marriage, Carr and Johnson had engagements as a singing and acting duo. They appeared regularly on the Winifred Atwell Show and other shows. In 1959 they took part in the British preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest . In the first semifinals they were able to qualify for the final with the song Sing little birdie , which they also won. Her second title in the competition, If only I could live my life again , failed in the second semi-finals. At the Eurovision Song Contest in Cannes in 1959 , the duo took second place with 16 points; in Great Britain the single reached number twelve in the charts. After the success, the couple wanted to represent Great Britain again in 1960 and again took part in the preliminary decision with two titles. They couldn't qualify in the first semi-final, but made it to the final in the second preliminary round with pickin 'petals , the placement is not known. Bryan Johnson , Teddy Johnson's brother, won the preliminary round . In 1961 the duo had a small chart success and reached number 23 with How wonderful to know . In 1986 an episode of the documentary series This is your life was dedicated to them. Shortly afterwards they took part in the musical Follies in London's West End .
