Gina G

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gina G , actually Gina Mary Gardiner , (born August 3, 1970 in Brisbane , Queensland ) is an Australian pop singer .

Career

Gina G started her career in 1987 as a DJ in Melbourne . In 1992 she could be heard as a singer with the dance act Bass Culture , which had a top 20 hit in the Australian charts with Live the Life . In 1993 Gina left the band to start a solo career in the UK .

At the 1996 Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo , Gina G represented the United Kingdom with the title Ooh Aah ... Just a Little Bit , which was written by Steve Rodway and Motiv8 . When she performed, she wore a £ 5,000 Paco Rabanne dress and ended up in eighth place. The single reached the top position in the British charts at the end of May 1996 and sold almost a million copies in Great Britain alone. In November 1996, the title also entered the US Billboard charts , which is a rarity for a Eurovision contribution.

With her second single, I Belong to You , Gina G also entered the UK Top 10, making it the first artist to debut in the Top 10 with a title from a Eurovision competition and then have another Top 10 hit.

In March 1997, her debut album, Fresh! released. There are also the other singles Fresh! , Ti amo , Gimme Some Love and Every Time I Fall . In 1998 Ooh Aah ... Just a Little Bit was nominated for a Grammy in the category "Best Dance Recording" .

During a flight to Glasgow Gina G collapsed and needed medical treatment. As a result, rumors of substance abuse have risen. Gina G withdrew from the public.

comeback

After a lengthy legal battle with her former manager , Gina G went back to the studio to record new material. In 2000 she worked with Swedish producers Lagoona , with whom she recorded a new version of their hit Ooh Aah ... Just a Little Bit and a cover version of the Nancy Sinatra classic These Boots Are Made for Walking .

Gardiner has been married since 2003. In March she was candidate of the reality TV telecast Reborn in the USA , but was voted out after the third week. The soundtrack for the show includes two tracks by Gina G, Don't Leave Me This Way and I Can't Make You Love Me .

In March 2005 Gina G finally took part in the preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 , but could not prevail against competitors such as Katie Price or Javine and received the fewest votes from the audience.

In August 2005 Gina G released her second album Get Up & Dance , which was only available on her website. The first copies had a personal dedication from her. In the summer of 2006, the single Tonight's the Night was released.
