Elena Paparizou ( Greek : Έλενα Παπαρίζου , internationally often spelled Helena Paparizou ) (born January 31, 1982 in Gothenburg , Sweden ) is a Greek-Swedish singer.

biography

Elena Paparizou was born in Gothenburg and grew up there. Her artistic talent came to the fore at a very early age, she sang, danced and acted from a young age. At 17 she founded the band Antique with her childhood friend Nikos Panagiotidis (Νίκος Παναγιωτίδης) . A short time later, Antique was signed to the Swedish music label Bonnier .

The debut single Opa Opa (cover version of a hit from Greece) became a big hit, reached number 1 in the singles charts and received gold status. After this success, the debut album was released. Antique also took part in the 2001 Eurovision Song Contest for Greece . Entitled (I Would) Die for You reached Antique 3rd place. More platinum albums followed, a European tour and collaboration with many well-known artists from Greece and elsewhere.

Despite the great success, Paparizou decided in 2003 to pursue her musical career on her own. She signed a contract with SonyBMG and in December 2003 her first solo single Anapantites Klisis was released . The title, the text of which was specially written for her by Christos Dantis , became a big hit and achieved gold status.

In the winter of 2003/2004 she performed with the Greek singer Antonis Remos . Her first solo album Protereotita came out in the spring of 2004. The tracks Antithesis , Anamnisis , Katse Kala and Stin Kardia Mou Mono Thlipsi became hits. In winter 2004/2005 she performed in the Fever music night club together with Sakis Rouvas and Giorgos Mazonakis .

At the end of November 2005 she released in Greece with Mambo! the first single from their second album Yparhei Logos , which stayed at number 1 in the Greek single charts for ten weeks. In Sweden, after the Eurovision single My Number One, the single The Light In Our Soul in summer 2005 and the single A Brighter Day at the end of November 2005 were decoupled from the English-language album My Number One , which helped her to great popularity and great success there. Mambo! was published there in the summer of 2006 and made it to number 5 on the Swedish charts. For the European Athletics Championships 2006 in Gothenburg , their new single Heroes was used as a promotional single, which rose to number 1 in the Swedish charts. In November 2006 their first international album The Game of Love was released in English. Elena also performed with Pashalis Terzis in the Iera Odos nightclub (winter 2006/2007 season).
