Maria Elena Kyriakou ( Greek Μαρία Έλενα Κυριάκου ; born January 11, 1984 in Larnaka , Cyprus ) is a Greek-Cypriot singer . She won the first season of The Voice of Greece and represented Greece in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest .

biography

Maria Elena Kyriakou was born on January 11, 1984 in Larnaka, Cyprus. When she was 13, her mother enrolled her in a conservatory . A few years later she studied at the University of Ioannina . After two years she went back to her home country and studied at the University of Cyprus .

Career

In 2014 she won the first season of The Voice of Greece with Despina Vandi's team with her song Dio Egoismoi .

In 2015 she won the Greek preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 , EuroSong 2015 - a NERIT and MAD Show , and thus took part in the competition in Vienna , Austria for this country . She reached the finals, where she finished in 19th place.

Personal

Maria Elena Kyriakou has two siblings. In 2006 she married the Cypriot sports journalist Gregoris Gregoriou, with whom she has three children. Kyriakou and Gregoriou split in 2011.
