St. Mary's Church in Zwickau, where Günther Metz worked

Between 1946 and 1948 Günter Metz was organist at the Friedenskirche in Leipzig's Gohlis district . From 1948 to 1988 he worked at the St. Marien Church in Zwickau .

As a sought-after organ virtuoso, Günter Metz undertook organ tours to the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, Poland and Hungary from 1963 and, from 1978, to the Federal Republic of Germany. He earned great respect as an organ consultant in connection with the cultural appreciation of the organ landscape that has grown over time in the organ landscape of Saxony as part of the cultural policy of the German Democratic Republic . A highlight of this work was the construction of the main organ in 1966 by the organ building company Hermann Eule Bautzen in “his” Marienkirche in Zwickau. The organ is the largest church organ made in the GDR and one of the largest in Germany.
