Gunther Metz (born August 8, 1967 in Alzey ) is a former German soccer player and today's coach .
Career
As a youth, Metz played for SC Hangen-Weisheim and 1. FC Kaiserslautern . As a youth national player he was part of the regular team, but he could not prevail in the professional squad of the FCK, although he played for the first time in the Bundesliga in 1986 at FCK , but there were eight games, so that he went to Karlsruhe for the 1987/88 season SC switched. Metz played for Karlsruher SC for twelve seasons, played 278 Bundesliga games and scored five goals. Gunther Metz is thus the record player in the entire KSC Bundesliga history. He also made eight appearances in the second division for Baden; a hit was denied to him in the lower house.
The defender, who was also used on the defensive left wing in midfield, quickly developed into the darling of KSC fans, by whom he was called "Magic Metz". In his last active years, Metz, whose strengths included the ability to fight in a duel and his fighter heart , lost more and more ground to the more technically experienced club-internal competition, which included Slaven Bilić , Dirk Schuster and Burkhard Reich and finally had to be content with the substitute bench . He played his last competitive game for Karlsruher SC on May 28, 1999 in the 2nd Bundesliga .
After his active time as a professional footballer, Metz moved to the amateurs at 1. FC Kaiserslautern as an assistant coach . With the start of the 2006/07 season, Metz took over the FCK U-17 team, with whom he advanced to the semi-finals of the German championship in the 2007/08 season. From July 1, 2008, Metz looked after the club's U-19 team. In March 2011 he took over the FCK U-17 again. He is the successor to Ratinho . For the 2011/12 season he was again coach of the U19s.
