The name addition "le Soc" is derived from the Latin "siccum" (dry) (cf. the nearby Breuil-le-Sec ).
The municipality was cleared in the middle of the 12th century by the Ourscamp monastery , which the Grangien Éreuse, Éloges and Saint-Julien built here. The Bailleul and Éraine homesteads were divided into lots in 1791. Bailleul was temporarily the capital of a canton.
