Angy is a French commune with 1,172 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Oise in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Clermont , the canton of Mouy and the communal association Communauté de communes Thelloise .

geography

The municipality of Angy is on the right bank of the Thérain , about halfway between the towns of Creil and Beauvais . The heavily forested Thérain valley is up to 1,000 m wide at Angy. To the northeast of the Thérain, the terrain of the municipality rises in terraces up to a plateau that is 126 m above sea level. M. achieved. The plateau is interrupted by three dry valleys, of which the Fond des Gorguets and Fopnd de Lançon valleys cut up to 50 m deep into the landscape.

Neighboring communities of Angy are Thury-sous-Clermont in the north, Ansacq in the northeast, Bury in the southeast, Mouy and Hondainville in the west and northwest.

history

The place arose around the church in the 11th century near a spring that, according to legend, was supposed to cure eye diseases. The church is a striking example of the transition from Romanesque to Gothic style. In 1140 the place first appeared in a document as Angio . In 1186 he was called Angum , in 1207 Angiacum . In 1793 there was still the spelling Augis .
