Angie is a female, more rarely a male given name than Angy .

Origin and meaning

Angie is the English short form of the female first names Angela , Angelina and Angelika . The origin is always the same, from Latin angelus 'messenger', ' angel ', this from Greek and perhaps Old Persian.

The form Angy then also corresponds to Angelo , Ángel , and the like.

The name is made famous by the Rolling Stones hit Angie , written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards , and published in 1973 on Goats Head Soup . Since then, the name has gained independence and as such is used worldwide.

The Angy form is rarer, international, and largely unisex.
